O’NEIL, MR. PATRICK M. CROTON, MI
Patrick Michael O’Neil , age 62, was born on April 30, 1950, in Fremont, Michigan to Thomas J. O’Neil and Helen (Stormzand) O’Neil. Pat graduated from Reeths Puffer High School in June of 1968. After graduation, he joined the Marines and fought in the Vietnam Conflict, soon becoming the youngest sergeant in the Marine Corps during the war. He was Honorably discharged in 1971 after receiving the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service medal and Vietnam Service Medal. After serving his country, Pat attended Muskegon Community College and Grand Valley State University where he received his Associate Arts Degree and his degree in Criminal Justice. Pat served the Newaygo County area for 30 + years as the Chief District Court Probation Officer, retiring in 2008. Pat was preceded in death by his father Thomas on Dec. 30th 1965, and sister Peggy on Oct. 28th 1975. Pat is survived by his wife Kelley O’Neil, mother Helen and brothers Tim, Tom and Don O’Neil. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Sandy (Tom) Nuyens of Spring Lake MI, his sons Michael (Aimee) of Canton MI and Ryan (Erin) of South Haven MI and his two daughters, Katie (Steve) Holzapfel of Columbus OH and Megan (Peter) Story of Studio City CA. His extended family includes 3 grandchildren, 2 step-children and 2 step-grandchildren as well as numerous other family and friends. MEMORIAL SERVICE: Saturday April 6, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church of Fremont, 51 West Oak Street in Fremont, MI. Rev. Doug Bennett officiating. VISITATION: Friday April 5, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 P. M. at the Young Funeral Home in Muskegon.
